Instead of sharing more stories about Belize, this week we are going to mix it up with a review of one of my favorite pieces of camera gear, my JOBY GorillaPod(Amazon $34.99)! If you have never heard of the JOBY GorillaPod I will break down some of my favorite elements of it and why its is such a versatile tool to have in your camera bag.

Flexibility

One of the biggest things I like about the GorillaPod is the flexibility of the tripod. Each of the legs are made up a small joints that allow for the legs to be wrapped around objects or adjust on uneven surfaces to get the shot you want. I opted for the version of the tripod without any kind of tripod head so the flexibility really makes up for not having a head.

Ruggedness

This tripod is tough! I took this flexpod with me to Thailand and I had no doubt that it would perform for the entirety of the trip. It has great build quality and retains its shape after being bent. I haven’t had any issues with the joints becoming loose and compromising my equipment. Typically I use the GorillaPod with my Canon 70D and a 10-22mm lens. I have dropped this tripod, repeatedly bent it, taken it around the world and not once was I worried that it wasn’t going to perform.

Versatility

The other great thing about the tripod is how versatile it is. You can choose to directly mount it to gear or add a ball head to add extra flexibility. It has a standard 1/4-20 thread mount which means you can use it with cameras, lighting, microphones and more. I have personally used it for a small off camera video light, hold a microphone during voiceover work, and of course mounting multiple types of cameras. In most cases when I am using the tripod it is with my video set-up for Vlogging. Having the ability to bend it into a handle for my camera puts it the perfect distance away for me to hold on and talk to the camera. I have also used it for long exposure photography and general travel photos.

Valuable Asset

Anytime I travel the JOBY GorillaPod will always have a place in my bag. There is so much creativity that it allows when shooting. Currently it is only $35 which is a great price. If you want to add a head, then the price will go up. If you are interested in this tripod head over to Amazon and check out other reviews. Using the links in this post helps to support the blog. There is no extra cost to you if you decide to purchase the tripod.
