If you are anything like me, you enjoy spending time outside exploring while road tripping in your Skoolie, RV, Camper, or Motorhome. Do you ever worry about your personal belongings while you are out on a hike, or maybe when your home away from home is left unattended. I know there is always a part of me that worries about what if something were to happen while I am away and can’t do anything. When it comes to the safety of yourself, your family, and your property, it isn’t worth the risk to avoid the subject. That is why we are talking about the best motorhome fire extinguisher today.

My skoolie has solar panels on the roof which provide me with power wherever I go. And unless I shut down my system the panels will charge the batteries each day, my fridge will still run, and the cycle will continue without me there. While I don’t like to think about the worst-case scenario, the thought of a fire in my skoolie or any RV for that matter is a real concern. How many fire extinguishers do you have onboard? Do you even know where they are located?

When it comes to bus life, van life, or RV life, sometimes safety is overlooked as a topic because it isn’t the “sexy topic”, it is hard to romanticize this lifestyle if you are always talking about safety. So what are we talking about today? Fire Safety. It isn’t exciting, but it is important to be prepared especially if something were to happen while you are away.

Motorhome Fire Extinguisher Ball

Recently while visiting with my friend Annette, who drives the Beautiful Strength Bus, I noticed this ball near her stove and started asking some questions. She mentioned it was an automatic fire extinguisher and I was intrigued. So after doing some research I found Elide Fire US and their product line of Fire Extinguisher Balls. I decided to look up some videos of their products in action and I must say I was impressed by them. Check out one of their demo videos below:

So what is the fire extinguisher ball? Well, it is a compact passive or active fire extinguisher. That means you can mount it anywhere there is a potential for fire and when it comes into contact with flames, it will ignite and disperse fire extinguishing powder to put out the fire. Or, if you need to actively put out a fire, the ball can be tossed into the flames and it will then detonate and spread the extinguishing powder. While I have 4 standard fire extinguishers on my bus, that doesn’t do me any good unless someone is there to use it. I will be mounting a fireball by my solar system to add an extra layer of safety protection to my skoolie.

Additional Safety Measures

While it is great to have passive fire extinguisher systems in an RV or any solar application, I still like to have active options at my disposal. Recently a friend of mine experienced a fire in their bus, luckily there were no major injuries. Having traditional fire extinguishers in key places around your rig can give you the extra seconds needed to escape without harm. In my skoolie, I keep 4 traditional fire extinguishers placed around the bus. One in the bedroom, one in the kitchen, and two near the driver’s seat. This allows for access to an extinguisher at any place on the bus. Getting a kit like this gives me peace of mind to have multiple fire suppression options.

Over the next week, I will be upgrading my solar wiring cabinet and installing my fireballs. So be sure to check out my social media and come back soon for the install post. In the meantime, be sure to keep Seeking Discovery and get out to Explore Every Day.
