If you are anything like me when traveling then the standard times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner all blend together. Instead the days are made up of a couple meals and lots of snacks and drinks! Caye Caulker Belize has plenty of drinks to wet your whistle and snacks to keep your belly full. We are going to go over some of the options that are easily available on the island if you are planning a visit.
Snack Time!
I love snacking! While snacking may not be the best habit to get into every day, while traveling snacking is a must! If you aren’t feeling very adventurous when it comes to snacks that is okay, there are things you can plan for or buy on site. One of my favorite things to make when I am traveling is Chex Mix! My family tends to make a big batch at home before traveling and then munch on it throughout the trip. We use a recipe very similar to the Original Chex Mix Recipe. Chex Mix is easy to transport and will usually stay good the duration of a trip, that is unless we eat it all… If you don’t want to travel with homemade snacks, then look to the local shops and vendors for some great options.
One of my favorite snacks I had while on the island were fresh plantain chips. I forgot to take a photo of them while on the island, but below is an image courtesy of https://ambergriscaye.com/ which shows what you would be looking for on the islands. On Caye Caulker there was a very nice gentleman down by the beach who would make fresh plantain chips each morning and have them bagged ready for sale. So if you are craving a crunchy snack then head down by the beach and support the locals.

Caye Caulker Drinks: Belikin Beer
When it comes to beer there are traditional options like Heineken or Budweiser on the island, but my local favorite would have to be the beer of Belize: Belikin Beer! Belikin beer is brewed in Belize and is light and refreshing. The bottles feature different Mayan sites around the region. I would highly recommend cracking open a few if you are visiting Belize. Unfortunately as far as I know they do not export their beer out of the country. So if you develop a taste for Belikin, you will just have to keep going back to Belize to get your fix. In addition to a great drink there are lots of shirts and tank tops that you can purchase around the island if you want to take back a little piece of Belikin with you!
My Favorite: Rum Punch
By far my favorite of the Caye Caulker drinks while visiting Belize was the Rum Punch. Almost any place you go on the island will have their own version of rum punch. And some even have 2 for 1 specials. But be warned these delicious drinks will sneak up on you. They typically consist of local made rum and mix in tropical fruit juices. I enjoyed many rum punches during my time on Caye Caulker.

If you are looking to save some money while on the island and have a place to relax in the sun or by the water you can make your own rum punch. Head down to one of the grocery stores and pick up a bottle of white Belize Rum and a bottle of fruit concentrate. Head back to wherever you are staying, mix the concentrate with some bottled water to make your juice and add the rum! This is a great way to enjoy the island favorite, but also save a little money in the process!
These are just a few of the options to try when spending time on a Belizean island. There are tons of additional options for snacks like fresh fruit, fryjacks, and more. As for drinks, there are traditional cocktails but I would recommend the rum punch and Belikin Beer. In the next post we fill be focused on dinner while on the island. I cannot wait to share some of the delicious meals I had with you all, so keep an eye out for that post! Until next time continue to Explore Every Day and keep Seeking Discovery!
