When looking for accommodations in a new place that someone is exploring, they might not think about staying in a club that was founded in 1882. While searching Detroit hotels, I had the opportunity to stay in The Detroit Club while visiting downtown Detroit a few weeks ago. This beautiful building still has a lot of the original character and style from the 1800s which made it very unique. But just because it is an old building doesn’t mean there isn’t modern amenities at your disposal.

History
The Detroit Club as I mentioned was founded in 1882. It was originally created as a place for businessmen to fraternize with one another while talking about business. The club has been operating for over a century making it Detroit’s oldest private club. Today they continue the tradition of providing a high class experience for their guests both visiting and staying at the club.
Room Accommodations
When booking my stay at The Detroit Club I found a weekend sale online and was able to score the room for almost 50% off which was a great surprise. The rooms do tend to be pricier since its considered 5 stars. If you want to check out staying at the club be sure to try and find some deals. I was very happy with the room layout and the decor fit the rest of the building. Below is a collection of images from the room showcasing the large king sized bed, lighting, sitting area, and bathroom.

The Library Lounge
Attached to the lobby on the main floor was a beautiful library that was one of the lounges in the club where you can grab a drink. The night I stopped in with a friend they had live music being performed which added a nice touch to the atmosphere. I ordered an Old Fashioned which was made with Noble Oak Bourbon, Orange Oleo, and Angostura. My friend ordered the Intentions which was made with Titos, Sparkling, Lemon Curd, Cassis, Lavender Black Pepper Syrup, and Peychauds. Both drinks were prepared very well and were delicious.

The Cigar Bar
After enjoying a drink at The Library I wanted to check out the cigar bar in the hotel. I am not a frequent smoker, only a couple times a year when the opportunity presents itself. This was one of those opportunities that I didn’t want to miss out on. The cigar bar has a special menu of drinks and appetizers. Instead of having a menu of the cigars available they have a dedicated person to help you select a cigar based on your level of cigar experience and what drink you want to pair. Ultimately I chose a $12 cigar with a hint of cherry that paired very well with my Old Fashioned.

In addition to drinks and cigars, the bar also has a billiards room which is free to use. While enjoying the atmosphere we played a few games on the table which was a great way to spend the evening. Overall I would highly recommend checking out both The Library and Cigar Bar if you have the chance at the Detroit Club.

Great Place to Stay
I was very pleased with all of my experiences at the Detroit Club while visiting the city. If you are looking for unique Detroit Hotels, look no further than this club. The rooms were immaculate, the services was great and the amenities were top notch. There was also light breakfast outside my room each morning which made it very convenient to get ready. In the afternoon there was beverages available as well.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Do you have a favorite place in the city to stay when you visit or something you always like to do or see? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
