Great Food in Greektown Detroit | The Greek

People may not think of Detroit, Michigan as a vacation destination. Recently I traveled there for work and got to really experience Detroit for the first time. Before arriving to the city, I didn’t realize there was even a Greektown. It was within walking distance of where we were staying. After doing a little research on our phones, my friends and I decided to check out The Greek.

Starters

The menu for The Greek is not overly massive, but there are lots of choices. To make the most out of the meal, we decided to get some starters at the beginning of the meal. Sharing a variety of appetizers is a great way to save some cash and still try a variety of dishes. The first thing brought out was the Dip Platter. The platter consisted of tzatziki, spicy feta, hummus and whipped garlic. These different dips were served with pita and some fresh vegetables for those that are gluten free.

In addition to the dip platter we also got an order of Stuffed Grape Leaves which was a special while we were there. Both of these were great choices, and I personally enjoyed trying all the different dips that came on the platter. For anyone who hasn’t had grape leaves before, they do have a distinct flavor that some may not enjoy.

Main Dishes

Another great thing about traveling as a group is that everyone can order different dishes and taste each other’s. It had been a while since I had a good Gyro, so I was excited to try The Original Gyro Plate. The plate came with a massive Gyro with delicious lamb on a soft pita and of course tzatziki sauce. It also included a side of rice and peas with a red sauce. I had never had greek rice and peas before, but found them very enjoyable and a good compliment to the classic gyro.

The other two got greek salads that looked amazing. The salad came with chopped romaine, tomato, cucumber, red onions, chic peas, dill, olives, feta – served tossed in ‘GRK’ dressing. A protein can also be added to the salad, in this case lamb was added to one of the salads.

Delicious Food Fast

We had a long day and decided to get dinner earlier than normal. One thing we didn’t take into consideration was that since it was early the kitchen would have the food out fast. We ended up having a table full of food by the time it all came out. Keep in mind, if you go at peak time of day then things will be spaced out more.

If you happen to find yourself in Detroit, I would highly recommend checking out The Greek in Greektown. The food was great, service was nice and prices were fair. There is also a bar above the restaurant if you are looking for a place to grab drinks after dinner. We will talk about that bar in an upcoming post! As always keep Exploring Every Day and Seeking Discovery. Don’t be afraid to try new restaurants.
