There aren’t many place in the United States where snowball fights in July are possible. In order to find snow during the summer, you must travel north or to a higher altitude. Last time, while traveling out west, there was snow in the Rocky Mountains in July. Being from the midwest, it is hard to pass on the opportunity to have a snowball fight in the summer.

Snow covered hills and mountain lakes were everywhere while driving through the mountains. After driving for a while, there was a spot to safely pull off the road and dig into the snow. It was only a matter of time before the snowballs would be flying. One thing to notice in the picture below is the large poles along the road. These poles are placed so that in the wintertime plow drivers know where the road is. They were over 8 feet tall, now imagine what it would look like in the winter with all the snow…

One thing to keep in mind when having a snowball fight in the mountains is the altitude. At the time of these photos, we were over a mile high in altitude. Normally snowball fights wouldn’t cause someone to be winded very fast, but with higher altitude and thinner air people get winded much faster. This moment was a highlight of the trip. I would recommend anyone traveling through the mountains during the summer take the time to get out and play with some snow.
The next leg of this trip was in Yellowstone National Park. Keep an eye out for the next post and as always keep Seeking Discovery each and every day!
